We can’t say that it’s much of a surprise that American-Somali supermodel Halima Aden is inspiring our next fashion purchase. The model knows a thing or two about high fashion, and she’s the epitome of the word”trendsetter.” Most recently, Aden convinced us to shop the Fall 2020 statement-making sequin dress trend, even if it’s just to dress up for a virtual Zoom party.
On Wednesday, November 18, she posted a throwback video on Instagram from the 2019 Lincoln Center Corporate Fashion Gala honoring Leonard A. Lauder. For the event, she donned a long-sleeved, high-neck sequined gown designed by Toronto-based womenswear label Narces. She accessorized the curve-hugging number with a thin belt, diamond drop earrings, and a patterned hijab.
Even though the former Miss Minnesota contestant wore the sparkly number last year, glitzy silhouettes had a moment on the fall 2020 runways — proving that this year won’t solely be defined by elevated loungewear and neutral-toned hues.
As seen above, just a few out of the many fashion designers to show sequins as part of their Fall-Winter 2020 catwalk shows include Tom Ford, Burberry, and Balenciaga. Parties may be nonexistent due to the coronavirus pandemic, but that doesn’t mean you can’t dress up to sip champagne in your living room.
Celebrities have been embracing sequins this season, too. Two of our favorites were Demi Lovato’s burnt orange sequin jumpsuit from Naeem Khan’s Pre-Fall 2020 collection at the People’s Choice Awards and Carrie Underwood’s asymmetrical Yousef Al-Jasmi gown from the Country Music Awards.
