Last winter, Benjamin Bocio Richardson, a Caribbean-born humanitarian, engaged in an energetic game of Hula Hoop during a humanitarian visit to a local Dominican Batey. He delightedly swayed his hips, playing alongside the children of the Batey community. His purpose on this trip was to show the world how happy these children are despite their unfair conditions, and he encouraged them to pursue their dreams.”

After his commencement ceremony at Boston University, the humanitarian expressed in an Instagram post his continued desire to contribute to building a world where no one is left behind.

Sustainable Development – Sustainable Fashion

Sustainable Development functions as a leading standard to achieve human growth. It strives to harmonize our current demands with the urge to preserve resources for future generations, fostering a mutualistic relationship between the advancement of humanity and the preservation of the environment.

Motivated by the quest for sustainable development following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, Benjamin and his father co-founded a charity named Fumebo. They partnered with Dr. Dario Contreras Trauma to serve those residing in the country’s poorest communities, including Haitian immigrants. Benjamin swiftly launched an initiative called “Prevention is better than extraction,” distributing toothpaste products donated by Colgate-Palmolive – a company known for creating a positive social impact and championing environmental preservation.

Sustainable Eco-fashion represents the convergence of practices, products, individuals (including consumers, brands, and policymakers), and actions striving towards a fashion industry that embraces carbon neutrality. The underlying principles are rooted in equality, social justice, the ethical treatment of animals, and a profound respect for ecological balance. A growing number of celebrities, including Heidi Klum, Naomi Campbell, Kendall Jenner, Gigi and Bella Hadid, Gisele Bündchen, Jane Fonda, Zendaya, Priyanka Chopra, Emma Watson, Olivia Wilde, and Angelina Jolie, have become advocates for sustainable fashion.

“One” Dream Becomes “Our” Dream

Benjamin Bocio Richardson teamed up with Taichi Ichikawa, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with other young leaders confronting the world’s most critical issues. The fruit of their work is a compelling book that weaves together dreams from 201 countries, providing a grounded perspective of our present and future.

“WE HAVE A DREAM: 201 Countries, 201 Dreams” is an enlightening exploration of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Each of the 201 countries represented in the book shares a unique dream. Each dream is interlaced with up to three SDGs, reflecting the author’s personal experiences. This blend illustrates the organic interconnectedness of the SDGs and showcases the tenacious efforts of young people as they navigate the complexities of today’s global issues. This book is available on Amazon.
