Endless dirt roads marred by diesel war trucks aren’t the typical environments for creative stimulation. But for over 45 years, Australian director George Miller has proven that a dystopian playa, reimagined from our sunburnt outback, is ripe for sartorial inspiration.

Taking up this mantle is none other than bona fide style icon Anya Taylor-Joy, who marks her debut in the franchise as a younger version of the ferocious Imperator Furiosa. (Previously portrayed by Charlize Theron in 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road).

Taylor-Joy is no stranger to desert landscapes, having just finished the surprising (and by all means delightful) appearance on the Dune: Part Two press run. But as the titular starring role, the Tiffany & Co. ambassador proves that fashion hath no fury like a leading lady.

Though unpredictable wet conditions in Sydney slightly tarnished the beginning of the press tour, Taylor Joy delivered the theatrics we’ve come to expect from her red carpet appearances. (If you have already forgotten, her appearance at the 2024 Vanity Fair Oscars After Party was dubbed a look that would’ve made her win America’s Next Top Model.) Backdropped by the Sydney Opera House (and a slew of skeletal ‘war boys’), Taylor-Joy set the tone with a textural rust-coloured set from Rick Owens’ Spring/Summer 2024 collection.

Earlier in the year, Taylor-Joy made her first official promotional appearance for Furiosa in a studded latex dress from Ludovic de Saint Sernin. If these pieces are anything to go by, we can assume the rest of the tour will be directly lifted from the dystopian tone of the film: hell for leather. Because if you’re doing dystopian dressing, why wouldn’t you want to wear designer?

Ahead, a look at everything Anya Taylor-Joy has worn on the press tour for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

Inspired by the leather tyres of the Mad Max war trucks, Taylor-Joy made her first official public appearance to promote the film at the 2024 WonderCon’s wearing a halterneck mini dress from French designer Ludovic de Saint Sernin.

Her burnt leather skirt and ruched asymmetrical top come courtesy of Rick Owens, which she paired with a slew of Tiffany & Co. jewellery from their iconic Elsa Paretti range. Specifically, the gilded large Bone cuff in 18k rose gold (which is arguably at the top of everyone’s wish list, imperator or not) and the elongated snake earrings in 18k gold.
