GRAZIA recently caught up with Dr. Bhanusali to get his best expert medical advice on anti-aging prevention and treatments—and we did our best to get him to spill all his celebrity clients’ skincare secrets.

What are some pointers you can provide on how you help keep clients like Martha Stewart’s skin looking good?

Martha is one of the most sunscreen compliant people I’ve ever met. This includes the decolletage and the hands (areas that are often missed). We’ve also crafted her a skin routine that includes many calming ingredients, including her favorite, CBD. In general, I tend to push away from harsh acids and over-exfoliation and instead focus more on calming, hydrating, and nurturing.

Do you have any recommendations for taking care of skin, especially as we age?

For my patients, everything starts with sun protection. Whether it’s daily sunscreen or supplements like Heliocare, this is the basis of any good routines.

Pretty much everyone should be on a retinoid from the age of 18 onwards. This help with acne when you are young but also pores/ texture/ and the slowing of wrinkle formation. I custom create our retinoids and personalize the ingredients to that patient. For example, for sensitive skin, I may add hyaluronic acid or for pigmentation, I may add azelaic acid, etc.

When it comes to procedures, we’ve seen a shift in more preventative measures. That includes yearly lasers (I like the Halo by Sciton) or more aggressive procedures like the Erbium Laser which resurfaces the skin. It’s important to always hydrate and nurture the skin as it is our greatest protection vs the environment.
