Overnight, onlookers of Chanel Cruise 2022 were whisked away to a small town in Provence. Despite another socially-distant, virtual runway presentation Virginie Viard did not fail to execute a spectacular show. Following the runway, Sébastien Tellier led a musical performance featuring a number of special guests. But it was a particular rendition of Britney Spears’ “Hit Me Baby One More Time” that piqued our interest.

Angèle Van Laeken – better known by her stage name, Angèle  – rounded out the musical appearance dressed in heeled boots, culottes and short-sleeved jersey courtesy of Chanel. Upon closer inspection it appears the Belgium-born musician is a long-time ambassador for the French fashion house. And if her pared-down Instagram grid is anything to go by, she’ll serve as a fashion muse for the GRAZIA team moving forward.

The artist boasts two studio albums from 2018 (her debut album sold 130 million copies worldwide) and 2019 and quietly appeared on Dua Lipa‘s latest album, Future Nostalgia. As just one of two collaborators for the project, she joined the British pop artist for “Fever” in French. She also makes a cameo within the music video.

Angèle was destined for stardom as the daughter of actress and comedian Laurence Bibot, and the singer Marka, former member of the 80s group Allez Allez. She will be making her film debut in Leos Carax’s musical Annette, alongside Marion Cotillard and Adam Driver. The film, selected for the official competition, will open the Cannes Film Festival on July 6th 2021, and will be released in cinemas the same day. A politically aware artist, she actively fights against sexism in the music industry and is involved in the fight against global warming.

Other special guests of the Chanel performance included Vanessa Paradis, Charlotte Casiraghi, and Juliette Armanet. Keep your eyes on Angèle; this isn’t the last time we’ll see her dazzle.
