It’s always fascinating to reflect on how much your fashion preferences have changed over the years, whether you’re a normal person or a high-profile individual like Ivanka Trump. I can’t speak for the mom of three, but if I was to take a wild guess, I think the socialite-turned-presidential-advisor has a handful of outfits that she regrets wearing over the years, too.

Ivanka’s been involved in fashion ever since she was a young girl. The former model made her first runway debut in 1997 for Katsumi & Malcolm and worked with Tommy Hilfiger, Thierry Mugler, Vivienne Westwood, and more designers. That being said, she’s no stranger to the ins and outs of the industry. But since she’s a human, she, too, has had a fair share of fashion faux pas.

Growing up a socialite in New York City, Ivanka was destined to start her own apparel and accessories brand. In 2007, she launched a fine jewelry line, but that was replaced with her namesake fashion line that she formally revealed in 2011. The brand was marketed to working women who wanted to look chic without spending an arm and a leg.

The brand shut down in July 2018 so that Ivanka could make her work in Washington her top priority. “I do not know when or if I will ever return to the business,” she said in a statement at the time. “But I do know that my focus for the foreseeable future will be the work I am doing here in Washington.” Unsurprisingly, things got pretty complicated too, having to balance a fashion brand with politics and all.

Since becoming America’s first daughter, Ivanka has traded sparkle and multi-colored gowns for timeless silhouettes and mellowed tones. These days, we define her style as polished and professional, but still chic. She’s certainly toned down her affinity for bold color and print but said risks aren’t as extreme as they used to be.
