In a ballet studio, the warm-up begins long before the first plié, with wool leg warmers pulled high over the dancers’ tights. Lately, those cozy knits have followed them out the door and into the city. Much of the credit goes to Pilates and barre classes, whose soft uniforms now travel happily from the mat to brunch. On TikTok, leg warmers appear slouched over ballet flats in gentle neutral shades, from cream to charcoal. Every stroll suddenly looks like a pause between two exercises. Now Repetto has captured that gesture in a single shoe. Its new Ballet Warm pairs a supple calfskin ballet flat with a knee-high wool leg warmer, stitched on for good. An elasticized edge hugs the foot, while a rubber sole keeps each step steady on city pavements. Say goodbye to the knit that slides down your ankle by mid-afternoon.
From the Paris Opera to the Big Screen
Repetto knows the world of dance by heart. In 1947,
Rose Repetto began crafting ballet shoes for her
son, the choreographer Roland Petit. Her workshop
near the Palais Garnier soon became a beloved
address for dancers. Nearly a decade after those first slippers,
Brigitte Bardot asked Rose for a flat she could
dance in for And God Created Woman.

That request gave birth to the bright red Cendrillon, and the ballet flat stepped proudly into everyday life. Leg warmers, meanwhile, found their pop moment in the 1980s. Jennifer Beals made them iconic in Flashdance, pairing slouchy knits with a cropped sweatshirt. Today’s version keeps that energy and trades neon for a gentler palette.
How to Wear Repetto’s Ballet Warm
Among the shades, swan beige feels straight out of Swan Lake. In Tchaikovsky’s ballet, Odette is a princess whom a sorcerer’s spell transforms into a swan. Pair this shade with a pleated mini skirt and an oversized cardigan for a dreamy, off-duty dancer look. The black version loves a long camel coat and sheer tights. For a playful twist, try icon pink with a soft gray sweater dress.

At the office, a midi skirt with a side slit lets the knit peek out with discreet charm. Finally, keep the rest of the outfit simple, since the wool already adds plenty of texture. Slip them on, and even the walk to the subway begins to feel like a graceful variation, danced entirely en pointe.
