A long roster of celebrities descended into New York City for the 2022 Time100 Gala dinner tonight. Zendaya was among the talent honoured for the evening and stepped out in a vintage patchwork style gown from American designer, Bob Mackie. Stylist Law Roach was reportedly given “rare” access to the archive which featured the Fall 1998 style. Mackie grew to fame for frequently dressing Cher and Elton John.
Zendaya’s mermaid green ensemble was finished with Bulgari diamonds and a shimmery turquoise makeup look. Of course, the actress is no stranger to to a vintage red carpet moment. More recently she was captured wearing a black-and-white column gown from the Valentino spring/summer 1992 collection for the season 2 premiere of Euphoria. On another occasion she was photographed wearing a 1956 Balmain Couture gown.
Last month Zendaya was named in the Time Magazine Top 100 Influential People of 2022 list as an “Innovator”. Award-winning director of Dune, Denis Villeneuve, was tasked with a short essay on the actress. He wrote:
“She is an autonomous creative force herself. A cultural icon in the making. A person driven by pure inspiration, empathy, and respect for her craft, who uses authenticity as a new superpower. She seems fearless, her roots run deep, and I love that she still laughs like a kid. Zendaya is the future. And there is nothing more comforting to me. This is only the beginning.”
Roach has styled a number of incredible archival looks in recent weeks. He most recently dressed Bella Hadid for the 2022 Cannes Film Festival in a string of vintage Versace gowns before closing out the week with the supermodel in a Chanel gown also plucked from the archives.
