In July 2021, Yara Shahidi was named a Dior ambassador across fashion and beauty. Only naturally should such a prestigious role should be worn with an equally-lauded handbag with the beloved actress appearing in the next instalment of In My Lady. Following the likes of British tennis star Emma Raducanu and actress Gillian Anderson, Shahidi unveils what she carries inside her ethereal beaded Lady Dior iteration.

It comes as no surprise that the Harvard Graduate pulls out a “thriller novel taking place in Japan”. “Absolutely obsessed,” Shahidi adds. Next is her Dior monogrammed passport holder and passport before she pulls out a black journal. “Speaking of my travels, this is my newest journal. The reason why I think journaling is important is because it makes you intentionally archive your life,” she says. “Go get a journal.”

When it comes to her beauty essentials Shahidi carries the Dior Forever Skin Correct concealer in the 4N shade for on-the-go touch ups and the Rouge Dior Forever lipstick in the timeless Dior red, 999.

Other bits and bobs include a couples of pens – self-explanatory – as well as photos of her family, a large amethyst crystal (which is her birthstone and favourite colour) and a James Baldwin pin. Baldwin was a Black American writer whose work brought awareness to racial oppression. Last but not least is her iPhone, of course.

Shahidi has worn Dior for many important events including her recent Harvard graduation ceremony. She worked with the luxury Maison to design a custom Dior red skirt suit.

As for the Lady Dior bag, it was designed by Gianfranco Ferre in 1994 originally with a different name. In 1995 a black iteration was gifted to Princess Diana by Bernadette Chirac, the First Lady of France. She had worn it many times and for iconic occasions including the Met Gala in 1996, with the bag eventually earning the name ‘Lady Dior’.
