The Musèe Rodin proved the perfect setting for Christian Dior’s Spring 2022 Haute Couture collection, as models moved through art-laden walls of the museum in custom finery.

Dior’s creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri opted for intricate detailing over drama this season, instead choosing to spotlight the elaborate handiwork of the French atelier’s seamstresses.

The largely monochromatic palette demanded a similarly simplistic beauty look, which makeup visionary Peter Philips – creative and image director for Christian Dior makeup – translated into a striking white undereye liner look.

“The inspiration was drawn from key words such as pure, simple and elegant with a twist,” Philips tells GRAZIA. “The eye is the stand-out feature. The white eyeliner pops to create a unique look, using a classic undereye liner in white on nude skin.”

The result is a barely-there base and a statement chalky wing, applied beneath the lower waterline with painstaking precision to align with the sophisticated air of the collection – but made modern by flipping the traditional liner look, in an unmistakable wink to Dior’s trademark je ne sais quoi.

According to Philips, the beauty team began by “prepping the skin with the Capture Totale skin care routine”, including the new Capture Totale Intensive Essence Lotion ($117).

Philips then enlisted the new Dior Forever Foundation ($95) to smooth and even out the complexion, before giving the lips a hit of hydration with Rouge Dior Lip Balm in 000 DiorNatural Velvet Finish ($59).

“On the eyes, I used the Diorshow Khôl ($44) and the Dior On Stage Liner ($56), both in white,” says Philips.

Philips notes that the key to nailing the look at home comes down to its versatility. “The idea behind this look is to play with eyeliner and have the possibility to adapt your look to the occasion,” he says.

“An undereye liner is a great way to play with eyeliners, even if you’re intimidated by applying a classic eyeliner,” he continues, adding that it’s actually easier to achieve. “And you can play with colours. Today we chose white, but any colour can be inspiring.”
