The 2023 Golden Globe Awards returned to television this evening as a cohort of talent gathered to celebrate excellence in film and TV. Despite taking a hiatus from broadcast last year – a decision made by NBC following criticism surrounding the Hollywood Foreign Press Association – the 80th annual ceremony was more glitzy and star studded than ever. The resounding message this evening? Cinema is back and the winners list is proof.

The nominations list was long and the competition fierce with the event most importantly providing insight to Oscar contenders come March 12. Among the top honours, Best Limited Series went to The White Lotus, Cate Blanchett (who was notably absent) was won Best Actress in a Drama Motion Picture for TÁR and Best Director (which was glaringly all male nominees this year) was won by Steven Spielberg for The Fablemans.

Best acceptance speech goes to:

It was a successful evening for young actors and actresses. Both Zendaya and Austin Butler were both nominated for a Golden Globe for the first time for Euphoria and Elvis respectively, with both of them winning the prestigious prize. Michelle Yeoh, Angela Bassett and Jennifer Coolidge also won in their respective categories.
