Margot Robbie Barbie Versace

It appears Barbie fever has hit the entire globe – and hard.

And despite the push back of the release of the Barbie movie in the Middle East, with some questions about whether it will even be shown in cinemas, Barbie is still having a moment in the region.

In true Dubai style of “go big or go home”, a giant Barbie doll standing nearly as tall as the Burj Khalifa has gone viral on social media.

In a spectacular CGI video created by regional creative content agency Eye Studio, a giant Barbie doll is seen in her Mattel packaging placed next to the world’s tallest building.

The Barbie doll, dressed in a strapless striped jumpsuit, white cat-eye sunglasses and black heels, is seen stepping out of the bright pink packaging.

Naturally, the video has gone viral on Instagram with over three million views and counting and 178,000 likes.

The CGI video also sparked a huge conversation in the comments section with one person saying, “Dubai always out-do themselves”, while others labelled the footage as slightly “terrifying”.

Meanwhile, others highlighted the CGI giant Barbie closely resembled music icon Taylor Swift.

The Barbie film, starring Oscar-winning actress Margot Robbie, is slated for release in the region on August 31, 2023, per an announcement by Vox Cinemas earlier this month. However, there is also speculation the film may be banned altogether as the film may violate censorship guidelines.

The blockbuster has already been banned in Vietnam due to the politically sensitive issue of the nine-dash line with reports that the Philippines may follow.
