Netsu by Ross Shonhan offers an unforgettable experience with an Iftar that serves up a Japanese-themed Ramadan menu prepared on the Warayaki grill. Located at the Mandarin Oriental Jumeirah, Netsu by Ross Shonhan is situated on the ground floor next to the hotel’s beautiful lobby, with an outdoor terrace by the pool for those who like to spend some quiet time enjoying the relaxing breeze. Inside, the decor is more contemporary – I felt like I was Uma Thurman in Kill Bill – with some music and a breathtaking smell that just makes us want to sit down and start savouring the menu. The open-plan kitchen is home to the largest Warayaki grill outside of Japan. Luckily, our table was in front of the kitchen, so we were able to watch the chefs cook. Overall, the restaurant gives off a very friendly atmosphere.
The restaurant staff wear masks and gloves, because even if we are in a restaurant with a setting that makes us forget everything around us, we must not forget to pay attention to the sanitary measures. The tables are quite far apart and there was adequate social distancing.
The menu is very refined for lovers of Japanese food. We started the meal with Edamame with Sea Salt and Chilli Butter, classic but, we won’t lie to ourselves, it’s a safe bet. The Edamame was accompanied by Korean Fried Chicken (very crispy and a very tasty sauce, everything we love to see), Wagyu Beef Gyoza (also a table favourite), Prawn Tempura Roll and Chicken Kara-Age Roll.
We had some time to digest our starters before the main courses arrived. We had Salmon Teriyaki, which was well-seasoned and served with Spicy Veggie Hot-Stone Rice, as well as the Prime Beef which was so tender that they almost melt in your mouth with no real need to chew – a real treat.
And last but not least, we devoured a Mixed Dessert Platter accompanied by pastries, ice-cream and fruits to finish the meal with a touch of sweetness and freshness.
The Japanese-themed Ramadan menu is at Dhs265 per person, including soft beverages and mocktails. If you are looking for a Japanese menu for Iftar you are at the right address!
