SKIMS review

I’m going to start by saying that I usually don’t fall for many of these influencer/celebrity brands, but there was something about SKIMS shapewear that threw all of my beliefs out of the window, and I caved…

It could be the fact that after watching every single episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, that I truly understood Kim’s long-term struggle with finding shapewear that actually worked for her dresses and body type or the fact that anything Kim touches turns to complete gold, but I’m going to say my decision involved the two. In a previous episode, the entrepreneur shared how she use to cut up and rework her shapewear to align with her clothing, which lead her to create her current empire, catering to all shapes and sizes.

The popular label carries a wide selection of everyday loungewear and shapewear, with their Cotton Collection being their most popular category. Now when comparing her shapewear to other brands, you’ll notice that Kim’s line consists of a much more diverse selection, allowing any body shape or size to find their perfect fit. But the million-dollar question is, do these products actually work? I had initially purchased a corset and shapewear, but after seeing Kim rocking their newest bodysuits, I couldn’t help but give it a try – as bodysuits hold a special spot in my heart.

If you find yourself hesitant to purchase an item from her collection or curious to know an honest review on some of the brand’s best-selling pieces, then keep reading to find out all the details below.

1. jersey long sleeve t-shirt

I have to say I was sceptical about my jersey-shirt purchase because the fabric states that it’s ribbed, and I’m not one for a ribbed bodysuit. I’ve slowly realised that that material doesn’t cut it for me, so I was unsure what to expect. After receiving it, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it didn’t come in the classic rib-styled material that every bodysuit comes in. I ordered a size Medium but definitely could’ve done a small. The top had a really nice stretch to it; it was form-fitting, breathable and seriously shapes you in the most flattering way possible – it’s kind of unreal.

2. essential crew neck bodysuit

If you take a deep dive into my closet, you would know that a majority of my tops are neutral bodysuits. I can’t think of a time when a bodysuit didn’t work in my favour; whether I paired it with sweats or leather pants for an evening look, a bodysuit has become a wardrobe staple for me that I seriously can’t live without.

Upon arrival, the first thing I noticed was its double-layered fabric – which was a dream. The material felt supportive and magically sculpted my body, similar to the jersey t-shirt. The fabric was super lightweight and breathable, making it to the top of my list of all-time favourite bodysuits I’ve tried (and trust me, I’ve tried a lot). I had ordered it in size Medium but could’ve done a small as well. There’s not a huge difference in size, but a small would’ve been more snug around my underarm.

3. seamless sculpting short

I’ve recently begun to wear a lot of denim. Most of the time, I find myself wearing shapewear underneath as a way to secure my tops and give off a seamless look. This would only happen to tops that weren’t a bodysuit, and I didn’t want to keep tucking them back in every time I moved or bent over. So I found myself wearing shapewear and tucking my tops in for a secure hold. I also find myself wearing shapewear for the sole purpose of smoothing and sculpting my body, I initially purchased the mid-high biker short, but looking back, I wouldn’t mind getting the knee-high length. The cut of the shapewear lands right at mid-thigh, but functionality wise I’m a big fan. It truly does everything it says it’ll do. It supports, sculpts and smooths my body, all while hugging it in the right places. But if there’s one thing I would say is make sure to size down. I’m usually a medium for shapewear, but I chose a size xs for my sculpting shorts, and when they arrived, they were so small I was determined it was impossible to fit, but that’s the whole purpose of it to work around your body and shape it in all the right places.

4. shapewear waist trainer

When purchasing these, I thought I would magically wake up with Kim’s small waist, and behold. I didn’t. I find myself wearing the waist trainer when I work out at times, but mainly around the house and in all honesty, I didn’t notice much of a difference. I’ve always been on the fence about waist trainers in general, but I thought I’d give my first try with SKIMS. Overall, I don’t mind it, but I could do without it. I purchased a size XS because the team advises you to size down, but overall it was my least favourite from my order.
