The community event which Sheikha Latifa attended with her son was overseen by Dubai Cares, part of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, during which a total of 2,600 volunteers assisted in preparing over 7,500 relief packages for the Tarahum for Gaza initiative. According to the Dubai Media Office, the packages are “intended to provide support and demonstrate solidarity with Palestinians who have been affected by the ongoing conflict in Gaza”.

“The ‘Tarahum for Gaza’ campaign, initiated just last week aims to express solidarity with Palestinians suffering from the current conflict and alleviate the harsh humanitarian conditions and suffering faced by the most vulnerable groups,” Dubai Media Office added. “Among these vulnerable groups, children represent a significant portion, with over 1 million children constituting more than half of the Gaza Strip’s population.”

Tarahum for Gaza in the UAE

Last week, the Emirates Red Crescent launched the ‘Tarahum for Gaza’ – which means compassion for Gaza – where UAE residents can donate in different ways across the country to provide relief and aid for Palestinians.

Coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Community Development, the initiative has been launched in collaboration with the World Food Programme, with the main goal of aiding the two million Palestinians who have been displaced from their homes in Gaza amidst the ongoing war.

A number of local brands, restaurants and retailers are also partaking in the fundraising drive.
