For the last 17 years, Her Highness Sheikha Lateefa bint Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum has unapologetically championed Arab talent through her brainchild, Tashkeel Studio.
As an Emirati woman deeply rooted in the arts and her heritage, she, more than anyone, understands the need to nurture homegrown talent, especially as the UAE’s cultural scene continues to flourish.
Taking to Instagram, the Sheikha shared a heartfelt reflection on her journey and her role as a pioneering force in the region, writing, “In three years’ time, I will complete 20 years of working as Founder and Director of Tashkeel.”
Looking back on her legacy, she continued, “I have had the privilege of working on projects that have shaped creatives in the UAE through the projects and the studios at Tashkeel. [We’ve] given them a place to create and build up their skills to a point where they take the leap of faith and set up their own art or design studios.”
Since its inception in 2008, Tashkeel has become an exceptional launchpad for UAE-based artists and designers. Writing on the studio’s impact and how she filled the gaps, she noted: “I’ve got the chance to meet the majority of the people in the industry, which puts me at the forefront of understanding the needs and the gaps in the market.”
She continued,” This gives me a chance to think ahead and create studios to be able to fill the needs and to sustain and drive a creative community for the future. One that stands firmly on the ground of supporting one another through critical discussions and experimentation.”
With an endless passion for seeking excellence in the creative community, it’s clear the Sheikha is far from finished. She shared, “It’s been almost 20 years, and I’m still as excited as when I started Tashkeel Studio in 2008. [I’m] looking forward to launching the new chapter soon. Every day is a new beginning.”
