Her Excellency Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi has always been a woman known for her perseverance when it comes to culture.
Recently attending the inauguration of the second edition of the Chapters of Islamic Art exhibition at the House of Widom in Sharjah (HoW), the sheikha toured the expansive space where history is brought to life.
The exhibition, entitled Travelogues, will run for four months which highlight key findings and contributions from historic travellers, geographers and cartogrpahers from the Golden Age of Islamic science that have laid the groundwork for the Gulf’s rich history.
Naturally, the sheikha, who wore a deep blue abaya with delicate, vibrant red and orange embroideries, took to Instagram and shared with her 162,000 followers about the initiative.
“The fantastic new @SharjahHoW exhibition, Travelogues,” she began. Showing her keen sense of culture, she added, “[This] shows how journeys from the Golden Age of Islamic exploration expanded geographical knowledge, bridging cultures and reshaping global understanding.”
Also noted in attendance was Marwa Al-Aqroubi, HoW Executive Director, who said to WAM: “This exhibition honours the legendary travellers of Arab and Islamic history, presenting a priceless legacy that immortalises their role in documenting geography and broadening our perspective of the world.”
The exhibition takes guests through an array of educational sections. One that delves into the science of Al-Masālik wal-Mamālik to others, such as the Al-Idrisi: Mapping the World, which showcases the famous inverted map of Al-Idrisi, the most accurate work in the totality of history.

Born in Sharjah in 1978 to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, HE Sheikha Bodour is a woman known to make a difference. A trailblazer in many ways, HE Sheikha Bodour’s commitment to learning is also present within her role in Sharjah’s Higher Education community. Instated as Chairperson and President of the American University of Sharjah, Her Excellence continues to transform the creation and consumption of knowledge within the emirate.
