The occurrence of the Met Gala each year causes a surge in online traffic that ripples through sectors of fashion, beauty, celebrity gossip, and more.
Now, a new report has revealed that the appearance of our favourite stars at the fashion extravaganza this year resulted in netizen’s aspiring to plastic surgery.
According to the Google Trends analysis, conducted by personal health consultants TruMe Labs, searches for the term “plastic surgery” soared by 72 percent across the United States, less than 24 hours after the Met Gala took place, on Monday, May 6, 2024.
Commenting on the findings, a spokesperson for TruLabs said its crucial to remember the time and effort celebrities put into their flawless looks, and to not compare our everyday appearance to the images we see of them online.
“The Met Gala is a celebration of fashion, but its important to remember the behind-the-scenes work and time these celebrities invest. Their flawless looks are a the product of months of preparation, so comparing ourselves to these A-listers can quickly become incredibly disheartening,” she said.
Wanting to look like your favourite celebrity, or even just the desire to improve your features, is certainly not a new concept – and in the UAE, is only growing more popular by the day.
With over 300 trained plastic surgeons, Dubai has the highest number of plastic surgeons per capita in the world, according to Dr Jamal Juma, president of the International Confederation of Plastic Surgery Societies (ICOPLAST) Dubai Congress 2023.
In another report, Dubai-based plastic surgeons, Maurizio and Roberto Viel, reveal that breast augmentations, rhinoplasty, tummy tucks, and rhytidectomy, also known as face lifts, are some of the most popular procedures requested from clients in the emirate.
While the fabulous fashion and beauty looks at the 2024 Met Gala certainly had us in awe, a little self-love and acceptance is truly the most valuable trend of all.
