News about the impending reboot of the iconic SATC series was met with both intrigue and scepticism in equal parts. When Sarah Jessica Parker announced the 10-part revival, titled And Just Like That, on her social media pages, the comments came in thick and fast. While many were overjoyed at the prospect of seeing the beloved characters inhabit their screens once again, others questioned whether the show could work without the inclusion of Kim Cattrall‘s much-celebrated Samantha Jones.

Cattrall has been vocal about her stance on the show and its subsequent films, stating that she won’t reprise her role for any upcoming SATC projects. She also accused Parker of hostile on-set behaviour throughout the initial series run, saying that despite the friendship between the foursome being at the core of the show’s success, the cast were “never friends” outside of a work environment.

Parker, meanwhile, maintained that she never acted untoward with Cattrall and stated her disappointment that the actress wouldn’t be back to play Samantha. Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis have all signed on to reprise their respective roles as Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte from the original HBO series.

Now Parker has responded to the many comments on her social media accounts from fans of the show, who are upset about Cattrell’s absence from the reboot. “Happy to see you back but will miss Kim/Samantha,” one fan wrote on Instagram, to which Parker replied, “We will too. We loved her so.” The 55-year-old mirrored this sentiment in another reply, writing, “She will always be there. And we are so excited.”

Despite the widely publicised feud, Parker was keen to negate any notions of tension between her and her former co-star. When one fan noted that Kim Cattrall wasn’t tagged in Parker’s Instagram announcement for the new series, Parker quickly shut down assertions about their relationship. “I don’t dislike her. I’ve never said that. Never would. Samantha isn’t part of this story. But she will always be part of us. No matter where we are or what we do.”

A statement from HBO Max confirmed that the premise of the reboot will follow the characters’ lives now, and is set to begin production in New York in the coming months. “The new Max Original series is based on the book, SATC, by Candice Bushnell and the original TV series created by Darren Star. The series will follow Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s.”
