Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah sat down with senior representatives of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) about the developing situation in Gaza to discuss the harrowing events and the impact its having on children.

Taking place at Her Majesty’s offices in Amman, Jordan, Queen Rania and the representatives discussed the repercussions of the war, particularly the impact it will have on the Palestinian children, who account for nearly half of the Gazan population of two million.

Speaking directly with Deputy Executive Director of Humanitarian Action and Supply Operations, Ted Chaiban, he emphasised at the critical necessity of an immediate ceasefire.

He went on to highlight the need to open all the Gaza borders to allow for the safe delivery of humanitarian aid which includes fuel, water, food and medical supplies. Additionally, in accordance with international humanitarian law, he demanded Gaza’s urgent medical cases be permitted to evacuate.

“The UN has said that 100 trucks are needed to go in daily in order to sustain humanitarian efforts and operations,” Chaiban told Her Majesty, adding that UNICEF is working towards expanding the number of trucks delivering aid into Gaza each day.

Tarahum for Gaza in the UAE

Two weeks ago, the Emirates Red Crescent has launched the ‘Tarahum for Gaza’ – which means compassion for Gaza – where UAE residents can donate in different ways across the country to provide relief and aid for Palestinians.

Coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Community Development, the initiative has been launched in collaboration with the World Food Programme, with the main goal of aiding the two million Palestinians who have been displaced from their homes in Gaza amidst the ongoing war.
