The Rouge Sur Mesure device by YSL beauty has taken the beauty community by storm. From the innovators at L’oreal, came the Rouge Sur Mesure machine. The innovative machine can create any shade of lipstick you desire and help you pick a shade according to your outfit. In an interview with Guive Balooch, Global Vice President of L’Oréal’s Technology Incubator, he explains that the concept of the lipstick printing machine came from the need for “a higher level of personalization with products.”
The lipstick machine went viral on TikTok with its unique features, renaming it the ‘YSL lipstick printer’ in online beauty communities. Beauty influencers around the world have tried and tested the Rougue Sur Mesure machines specially curated lipstick shades, giving it raving reviews.

How does it work?
Guive Balooch explains that this product “took more than five years to develop.” The unique system “compresses the formula from the cartridges at the base of the machine in an upward motion to the dispensing tray above for a clean application.” Customers have the option to choose from a selection of cartridge colours to insert into their devices to create a world of lipstick shades. From there you can find your new lipstick shade from either the Shade Palette, Match or Stylist all through their unique application. A perfectly proportioned single dose is created that you can take on the go by removing the compact, and can be easily applied with the accompanying brush.
Creating your lipstick shade
There are three different ways to select the shade you want to create. You can choose a colour family to make an everyday shade by using The Shade Palette, with the gradient tool you can darken or lighten the colour to your choosing. Have you ever seen a colour that you know would make an amazing lipstick shade? The Shade Match tool helps you recreate any colour from a simple photo. Lastly, one of the most unique features of the Rouge Sur Mesure application is the Shade Stylist. An algorithm created with YSL’s colour experts designed to recommend lip shades coordinated to your outfit.
