In heartfelt message on March 25, Reese Witherspoon, 47, announced she and her husband of 12 years Jim Toth, 52, will be divorcing. The announcement came two days before the couple were to celebrate their 12th wedding anniversary.
“We have some personal news to share. It is with a great deal of care and consideration that we have made the difficult decision to divorce,” Witherspoon wrote.
“We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and are moving forward with deep love, kindness, and mutual respect for everything we have created together. These matters are never easy and are extremely personal. We truly appreciate everyone’s respect for our family’s privacy at this time.”
Collective gasps were felt across the world. These two people – one a Hollywood talent agent, the other an Oscar winning actress – seemed to be made for one another. They share a 10-year-old son Tennessee, and Toth also helped co-parent Witherspoon’s two other children, Ava, 23, and Deacon, 19, from her first marriage to actor Ryan Phillipe.
When the news initially broke, a “source” told Page Six “there’s no big scandal or drama, just two people who essentially became co-parents and don’t really have any romantic feelings for each other anymore.”
But since a different source – which, please, take this with a grain of salt – told The U.S. Sun the split was actually the result of Witherspoon and Toth no longer having anything in common post the sale of their Hello Sunshine company, “a real gut check moment for him and Reese,” says the source.
“This process of uncoupling really began in late 2021 when it became clear to everybody who knew both of them that they were itching for life apart from each other,” says the insider. “That money was rocket fuel to them, but it sent them in different directions and pretty quickly after that deal closed, the only real common ground they had was the raising of their son, Tennessee.”
“They now had more money than either of them could ever figure out what to do with, and it was time to reassess,” the source adds.

But this insider also alludes to Toth’s change in behaviour being another reason for the split.
“His personality, his attitude and his whole take on life really changed when he got out of the agency business and decided he was tired of that stuffy world and being in the service business in general.
“Call it a midlife crisis if you want but that’s when the tattoos, the chunky, weird jewellery, and dressing like somebody half his age really took hold,” the source revealed.
Again, this is all speculation. We hope Reese and Jim are OK.
