In addition to being an Academy Award-winning actress, Reese Witherspoon has produced some of our favourite television projects to date – think The Morning Show, Little Fires Everywhere and Big Little Lies. Today her award-winning production company, Hello Sunshine, nabbed a billion dollar deal.
“Today marks a tremendous moment for Hello Sunshine,” Reese said in a press release about the company’s $900 million USD (1.22 billion AUD) sale to investment giant, Blackstone (via E! News) “I started this company to change the way all women are seen in media. Over the past few years, we have watched our mission thrive through books, TV, film and social platforms.”
Backed by Blackstone, entertainment executives Kevin Mayer and Tom Staggs will lead Hello Sunshine. Fear not however, Witherspoon will still be involved in day-to-day operations and will join the renewed company’s board. So we can expect more from Witherspoons’s series to continue. In addition, the actress’ beloved Book Club will operate through the company.
“We’re taking a huge step forward by partnering with Blackstone, which will enable us to tell even more entertaining, impactful and illuminating stories about women’s lives globally,” she added.
“I am committed to continuing to create opportunity for filmmakers, authors and creators of all backgrounds and experiences to tell their stories in their own way, and to reach more audiences who will see that their stories matter,” Witherspoon continued. “This is a unique time in our world where the intersection of art, commerce and media makes it possible for these creators to tell their stories and Hello Sunshine is here to put a spotlight on their amazing creations.”
In other news on the 45-year-old, her daughter Ava Phillippe nearly broke the internet this weekend after she shared a rare selfie with her boyfriend. The couple were a spitting image of Witherspoon and ex Ryan Phillippe from the ’90s. Check out the comparison below. You’re welcome.
