A time for devotion to ones faith, the Holy Month of Ramadan is an important period for the Muslim community. Dictated by the moon, timings and dates are linked to the crescent sightings.

In the Arab region and beyond, understanding the translations of the moons whereabouts is important to the religion. Abstaining from consuming food or liquids from sunrise to sunset, fasting timings, for instance, differ drastically across the globe.

Raamdan dates

Per the Emirates Astronomy Society, the Ramadan dates for 2024 will fall from March 11 to April 10, 2024. During these 30 days practicing Muslims will be fasting in accordance with their religious texts. Additionally, the UAE laws permits employees across all religions to end their eight hour work days 2 hours earlier, to accommodate the fasting individuals.

As Ramadan follows the lunar calendar, in 2025 the Holy Month will fall approximately 10 days earlier in 2025.

Iftar in dubai

With gradual time changes across the 30 day period, the day long fast ends at sunset everyday. Broken in familial settings, iftar calls for the gathering of families, friends and communities to break the fasts together. The daily fast is usually broken with the consumption of three dates in line with Prophet Mohammed’s practice, it is a highly anticipated and loved time in day.

During the beginning few days of Ramadan, iftar will commence at approximately 6.27pm, while by the end of the 30 days it will fall closer to 6.40pm. As we get closer to summer, days will get longer and sunset will move further away. Meaning the fasting period may grow a little longer through out the 30-day period.

Suhoor In Dubai

Intertwined into the fasting period is suhoor is the pre-dawn meal worshippers eat before sunrise. Punctuated with a call to prayer, it is recommended to conclude your eating for the day of fasting ahead 10 minutes before Fajr praying time. Heard through the city through the Adhan, a call to prayer the mosque sounds, suhoor timing also fluctuates.

Starting at 5:13am, Fajr prayer commences and subsequently the Suhoor meal time frame concludes. Closer to April 10, the end of Suhoor will grow towards 4.41am in Dubai.
