Crown Prince Hussein and Rajwa Al Saif have officially tied the knot! And whilst the world watched the happy couple become husband and wife at Zahran Palace (the exact same place His Majesty King Abdullah and Her Majesty Queen Rania wed 30 years ago), we were taken in by the gorgeous gowns, dazzling accessories and – of course – the Princess’s beauty look.
The Saudi Arabian architect and future Queen of Jordan opted for a makeup look fit for a princess. What better way to complement her stunning custom Elie Saab bridal dress? And if you’ve been itching to know exactly how it was created and what actual products the princess used, look no further, because GRAZIA spoke to her makeup artist Robert Sesnak to get the Rajwa Al Saif wedding makeup low-down.
When it came to creating the perfect princess look, it was all about finding that effortless combination of natural meets striking, which – it’s safe to say – Robert created flawlessly. “Rajwa did want to do something in between. I called it naturally dramatic. We decided to focus on the eyes and keep everything else soft and natural,” he revealed. “We needed the eyes to pop and stand out a little bit more but kept everything clean and classic because of the very long day ahead. We had the wedding ceremony, then the motorcade through Amman and finally the palace celebration. The makeup had to last throughout all the events with minimal touch-ups.”
“Rajwa isn’t a huge fan of a strong lip on herself, so we decided to focus on softly defined eyes and clean and pretty everything else. I used a neutral brown pencil to define the lash line and softly diffused the pencil with a deep neutral rose-toned eyeshadow, blending into the crease. I used a light shell-coloured eyeshadow towards the inner corners of her eyes to open them up and finished with a deep brown/black pencil into the lash line for added depth. I used multiple coats of waterproof mascara on both the upper and lower lashes.”
“After the eyes, I used a few shades of foundation for the perfect match and then proceeded to use a cream contour to define her features. Afterward, I layered concealer to highlight and conceal. I then applied cream blush and a layer of powder blush to set, and some cream highlighter for added luminosity. I finished the look by defining her lip line with a pinky nude shade lip liner over the entire lip, and then used a neutral pink beige lipstick before finishing it off with a nude lipgloss.”
