Queen Rania Visits Local Artisans

Yesterday, Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah visited the Turquoise Mountain showroom in Jabal Amman to visit a group of local artisans who works for a non-profit organisation launched by Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales.

Turquoise Mountain aims to strengthen global links to cultural heritage by developing traditional skills, providing local employment opportunities, and reviving historical cultural sites.

“Designs inspired by our Jordanian culture are always particularly special. Had a wonderful visit to Turquoise Mountain, a non-profit that aims to revive local heritage,” the mother-of-four wrote on Instagram.

On arrival, Queen Rania was welcomed to the venue’s showroom on Rainbow Street by Country Director Richard Dwerryhouse, who gave Her Majesty a tour of the facilities. She stopped by the organisation’s design studio to observe a jewellery-making workshop before proceeding to a meeting with a group of the organisation’s artisans.

Chic as ever, the Arab royal wore her CHLOE Braided high-rise flared-leg jeans, paired with the Chloe Nile crossbody bag, and Jimmy Choo Love 100 leather pumps.

Turquoise Mountain launched its Jordanian operations in 2018, and currently employs around 70 people. It offers workshops, training courses, and supported apprenticeships – from jewellery making to woodworking and design – to young Jordanians and Syrian refugees, while also operating a heritage-led restoration project at Umm Qais.

The organisation conducts a cultural heritage program for children between the ages of 6 and 16, which educates local young people on Islamic geometric design, traditional embroidery, and micro-mosaics.
