Once a supermodel always a supermodel, Kate Moss has arrived at the Met Gala accompanied by her equally modelesque daughter Lila Grace Moss. If the fashion world had a royal family, this would be it.
Tonight’s Met Gala theme, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” could be seen as a personal one for Kate, who was one of Lagerfeld’s army of muses and one of his favourite models to work with throughout both their careers.
Many of Kate’s most iconic moments on runway and in campaign came courtesy of Karl. On her Instagram, in the lead up to the night, Kate shared an intimate rerun of some of her favourites – including the incredible Chanel logo sunglasses moment for Spring Summer 1993.
Tonight, however, it seemed like the model wanted to shake things up – perhaps wearing Chanel would have been too obvious a choice. Instead, Kate and Lila Grace practically floated along the red carpet in matching Fendi gowns, the complimentary shades of pale peach and pink a perfect touch. While the elder Moss opted for a simple and divine slip dress and sheer cape Lila Grace chose a corseted dress with fur skirt and bust.
The two looks represent key pillars of Lagerfeld’s time at Fendi – the slip dress and fur – and his directional take on femininity that was simultaneously dreamlike yet empowered. While it’s been said he didn’t have a signature design, he did have a vision of what fashion should look like: fantasy, aspirational, an escape into a world of potential.
Kate’s dazzling jewellery came courtesy of Tiffany & Co, whose recent reopening of their flagship boutique in New York will no doubt go down in history as one of the most star-studded events in recent years. Just some of the pieces included platinum diamond necklace from the Tiffany & Co archives, Tiffany Victoria bracelets and platinum ring with Morganite of more than 11 karats and diamonds.
