Everything You Need To Know About Miss Universe Bahrain 2023

Miss Universe Bahrain 2023 is set to be crowned next month where Evlin Khalifa, who currently holds the title, will pass on her crown.

The winner will go on to represent the Gulf country on the global stage at the Miss Universe pageant. But the first hurdle for the seven finalists, who were announced last month, is the all-important Miss Universe Bahrain finale.

It was confirmed by Josh Yugen, who is the national director of Miss Universe Bahrain, the winner will be crowned on Saturday September 2, 2023. The ceremony will also be live streamed on YouTube.

“For the first time ever, our Middle Eastern audiences are watching more streaming TV than cable,” Josh said in a statement, as per The National. “With this profound shift in the way audiences watch content under way, we’re thrilled to partner with the official Miss Universe YouTube channel as a platform to show the beauty, wit and elegance of a Bahraini woman to the world.”

The Miss Universe Bahrain 2023 Finalists

The seven finalists for the Miss Universe Bahrain 2023 pageant were unveiled last month. The frontrunners were voted for by the public via Choicely, an official fan-voting app.

The finalists include: Advaita Shetty, 28; Lujane Yacoub, 19; Mariam Naji, 26; Mary Mohamed, 28; Menatalla Husein, 20; Nivine Abouzeid, 24; and Turina Carrol, 28.

On September 2, all seven finalists will compete across the four official categories: activewear, burkini swimwear, evening gown and the all-important final question.

Advaita Shetty is currently pursuing her master’s in clinical audiology and has bachelor’s degree in animal welfare and environmental health. She is also the founder of her own charity to help those with hearing impairments.

Lujane Yacoub is currently an actress, dancer and model, she also hopes to study creative arts in London. She is also a returning Miss Universe Bahrain contestant.

Mariam Naji is a school principal, a social media influencer and a member of Bahrain’s national fencing team.

Mary Mohamed is from a bi-racial background which she celebrates as a Bahraini-Filipina. She is a certified cognitive behavioural counsellor specialising in eating disorders, something she herself struggled with during her formative years.

Menatalla Husein is passionate about making discussions about mental health more open in her community.

Nivine Abouzeid is a marketing and PR professional in one of the region’s leading hospitality, transportation and real estate developers

Turina Carrol — Tuhina Carrol is a flight attendant for the national airline of Bahrain and encourages people “to treat people the way you want to be treated”.

The search for Miss Universe Bahrain 2023 began earlier this year. All applicants needed to be aged between 18 and 28 and, according to Miss Universe Bahrain’s official Instagram page, needed to have an “inspirational story of empowerment and resilience”.

This year also marked the first time in Miss Universe’s history that marital status did not matter. Applicants could be single, married, divorced or mothers.

The winner of Miss Universe Bahrain will follow in the footsteps of predecessors Evlin Khalifa (Miss Universe Bahrain 2022) and Manar Nadeem Deyan (Miss Universe Bahrain 2021), who both went on to represent their country on the global stage.

This year, the Miss Universe pageant will take place in El Salvador in November.
