On the 1st Monday of May, the 2023 Met Gala welcomed celebrity guests to the grand opening of the Costume Institute’s latest exhibit, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” One standout guest was newcomer Alia Bhatt, who made sure her Met Gala debut was nothing short of phenomenal.
The actress stunned at the 2023 Met Gala in a Prabal Gurung gown, which was embroidered with a whooping 100,000 pearls. Opulent yet subdued, this elegant red carpet look perfectly captured the spectacle of high fashion that makes the Met Gala worth watching.
The white floor-length number was rendered in a traditional bridal style, complete with a princess silhouette that extended into a flowing train, making Bhatt a picture of bridal beauty for the evening. “I have always been fascinated by the iconic Chanel brides,” divulged Bhatt in an Instagram post after the event.
“Season after season, the genius of Karl Lagerfeld shone through in the most innovative and awe-inspiring couture. My look tonight was inspired from this and in particular by supermodel Claudia Schiffer’s 1992 Chanel bridal look,” she added.
In the same post, the Bollywood actress proudly informed her followers that the Prabal Gurung gown was made in India. She noted that she “wanted to do something that felt authentic” to her for her first time at The Met Gala. Hopefully, the first of many.
