Misinformation surrounding the September 13 Met Gala is running rife. While it has been confirmed that Timothée Chalamet, Amanda Gorman, Billie Eilish and Naomi Osaka will co-chair the event, questions (and outrage) remain on the all important guest list. According to tabloid giant Page Sixcelebrity agents and managers are expressing their disappointment on the rumoured lineup of attendees. Which apparently consists of TikTok influencers.

“I’ve been told that a lot of influencers are on the guest list,” one celebrity agent told The Post. “I’ve heard that Facebook and Instagram have taken so many tables, and that’s put a lot of people off going, alongside the mask mandate.”

A publicist added: “Personally, I don’t think the Met is cool anymore … It’s gone from super prestigious to [being] full of influencers.”

While any online gossip should be taken with a grain of salt, the news isn’t that wild. One Instagram account (again grain of salt) posted a table chart after the Page Six report was published. It sees young influencer Emma Chamberlain sitting next to Lady Gaga and Addison Rae sitting across from Beyoncé. Ok, but where is Jay-Z on that table then?

“This is how the dinner would risk being,” the account captioned the post. “Nothing is confirmed here, so don’t believe everything you see. But if you should choose a table which one will it be?”

Representatives for talent and Vogue have declined or failed to respond to both Page Six and Insider.

Wintour was reportedly forced to cut the guest list from 600 people to 450 in line with health restrictions. And as with the co-chairs, the guest list will be skewed towards a younger audience. Which means claims of influencers attending isn’t so far fetched. There is however outrage that beauty YouTuber James Charles could attend. While he has walked the Met Gala red carpet in the past, he’s faced huge controversy after he admitted to sexting underage boys.

“I think the big actors and the big fashionistas will come next year, when it returns in May,” the agent told the publication. “I also don’t think a lot of people feel like dressing up in ridiculously expensive outfits and putting on a mask for this.”

Past reports suggest Jennifer Lopez will be in attendance (with Ben Affleck, fingers crossed) as well as Rihanna, Emily Ratajkowski and Lupita Nyong’o. Unfortunately for you and I, Sarah Jessica Parker could miss the lavish soirée due to a busy schedule for And Just Like That

The Met Gala is slated to return to normal scheduling in 2022. Stay tuned for more on the upcoming event.
