Meghan Markle, aka The Duchess of Sussex, is reportedly preparing to make a comeback on Instagram.

Prior to her life as a royal (and post-royal family exit), Meghan was an active social media user and even had her own luxury lifestyle blog The Tig.

After announcing her engagement to Prince Harry and subsequent wedding in May 2018, she stepped away from her personal Instagram account, launching an official joint royal account with her husband, @sussexroyal.

Following their highly publicised exit as official working members of the royal family and relocation to the USA, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not launched any new social media accounts – until now.

The Duchess of Sussex’s Return to Instagram

According to Page Six, the former Suits star has her reserved handle on Instagram, simply just @meghan. Upon looking, the account just has a photograph of pink flowers for its profile picture, but has a growing number of  followers, now at over 26,000 and counting.

The US news outlet reports that Meghan had activated the account before the launch of  her Spotify podcast Archetypes in August 2022, but decided not to officially go live with it at the last minute.

“Meghan was set to go live on Insta, but changed her mind shortly before she launched her Archetypes podcast, so it’s just sitting there now,” an alleged source said.

However, the former UK royal, who celebrates her 42nd birthday on Friday, has reportedly been in talks with “a number of luxury brands to work with”. This is perhaps part of the next step for Meghan’s career post-royal life after she signed on with Hollywood heavyweight talent agency WME earlier this year. The agency represents the likes of Hollywood A-listers including Ben Affleck, Jessica Alba, Christian Bale, Kate Beckinsale, Matt Damon and Jennifer Garner – just to name a few.

While the Instagram account in question hasn’t been confirmed to be Meghan’s, she did tease in an interview last year she would be making a return to the social media platform. “Do you want to know a secret?” she said in an interview with The Cut last year. “I’m getting back on Instagram.”

Meghan & Harry’s latest appearance

Meghan’s reported return to Instagram comes after her recent appearance with Prince Harry in a video published to their Archewell Foundation website.

In the video, the couple announced the Responsible Technology Youth Power Fund. This initiative spotlights 26 young individuals and organisations for their exceptional efforts aimed at reshaping technology. The video includes footage of the couple calling up some of the talented individuals and listening to their insights on making technology safer for future generations.
