While wholeheartedly agreeing with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to move from gloomy London to sunny LA—a tempting proposition for the weather alone, let alone the racist British press and reported royals, but one thing that’s been far too absent since the family’s relocation is that of a good Markle fashion moment.

Due to the lack of social media presence the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have had since early 2020, and the lack of opportunities to leave the house for events thanks to the pandemic, we’ve seen almost none of Markle’s wardrobe for over a year. A very insignificant issue in the grand scheme of things, but who doesn’t love to use celebrity fashion as a distraction from the depressing events surrounding us?

Thankfully, ahead of the release of Prince Harry’s docuseries with Oprah Winfrey, Markle gave us a very rare look at her casual style when she popped up for a surprise appearance in the The Me You Can’t See trailer.

In the cameo, Markle wore a “Raising the Future” Mère Soeur t-shirt and Lorraine Schwartz earrings, paired with a casual pair of black pants.

The graphic tee Markle wears is by feminist-inspired “Mama Merch” brand Mère Soeur. The text is a sartorial nod to the often overlooked emotional labor that mothers and mother figures take on raising the next generation. Upon seeing Markle wearing her designs, the brand’s founder took to Instagram to write, “Excuse me but 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 if you know how my brand started and why then you’ll understand why I shed a small happy tear just now 🤣❤️.”

Despite her cameo, and being open about her mental health struggles in the past—most recently in a conversation with Oprah—Markle is not one of the subjects of the documentary series. Prince Harry, however, is, and so too are Lady Gaga and Oprah, along with a slew of other men, women and children from across the world.

Last week, ahead of the series’ release, Prince Harry opened up about Markle inspiring him to begin therapy during his appearance on Dax Shepard’s podcast, Armchair Expert.

“It was a conversation that I had with my now wife [Meghan],” he said of deciding to get help. “And she saw it. She saw it straight away. She could tell that I was hurting and that some of the stuff that was out of my control was making me really angry and it would make my blood boil. You have that fire. It’s not a temper, it’s a fire. I’ve never screamed. I’ve never shouted. For me, the best way of letting out the aggression is through boxing. But for me, prior to meeting Meghan, it was very much a case of certainly, connected to the media, that anger and frustration of this is so unjust. Not, by the way, just about me but all this stuff that I was seeing.”

He continued, “Helplessness [that I feel], that’s my biggest Achilles heel. The three major times I felt completely helpless: one when I was a kid in the back of the car with my mum being chased by paparazzi, two was in Afghanistan in an Apache helicopter, and then the third one was with my wife. Those were the moments in my life where yeah, feeling helpless hurts. It really hurts.”
