This Barbie is back on the road. After shutting down Sydney in an array of Claudia Schiffer-inspired vintage Versace looks and mid-Century modest silhouettes Margot Robbie is back on the Barbie press trial, leaving behind a sea of high-octane pink ensembles in her wake.
Robbie unequivocally stays faithful to the source material with her Barbie promotional wardrobe. Rather than embracing the merits of Barbiecore by embedding her personal style with the rose-tinted “Kenergy” the doll possesses, Robbie has eschewed any semblance of herself and dressed as the life-sized version of Barbie that she is. Valley of the dolls, indeed.
However, with each of these sartorially referential looks cementing Barbie as the most anticipated film of the year (sorry, Oppenheimer), Robbie’s latest look could be the most uncannily similar to her silicone counterpart. Her magnum opus, so far.
Stepping out at the film’s Seoul premiere, Robbie and her stylist Andrew Mukamal recreated the 1985 ‘Day To Night’ Barbie doll in two vividly pink Versace outfits.
For her ‘Day’ look, Robbie as Barbie remained steadfast in delivering us an 80s executive realness fantasy, sporting a calf grazing satin pencil skirt a matching sculpted blazer, with the 9 to 5 trimmings including a contrasting white label and shoulder pads, and chiffon necktie.
Given the doll’s adoration for accessories, Robbie followed suit and donned a white boater hat, Versace’s La Medusa purse and a bejewelled pink Motorola DynaTAC 8000X.
Because every businesswoman needs a change of clothes for after-work drinks, Robbie’s ‘night’ look is the epitome of retro glamour, complete with a sequinned bodysuit and silk draping skirt.
Almost as if the looks were borrowed from the Barbie costume department, Robbie’s homage proves Barbie’s perennial appeal and further positions her as the acme of fashion with a perfectly curated outfit for any occasion. A dream for any style savant, really.
We’re sure that Robbie will be giving this hue the pink slip as soon as this saccharine and saturated press tour concludes, but consider us tickled… pink.
