December 2021 will mark UAE’s golden jubilee national day celebrations. UAE is not just home to me but it is also a constant source of inspiration. The meteoric rise of the UAE as a young nation to the trailblazer in innovation that it has become, is a roadmap for my own trajectory.
The leaders of this great nation have proved time and time again how perseverance and dedication can turn sand into gold. A grand vision coupled with a burning desire to be the best version of yourself is what UAE stands for.

As an Emirati woman, I too have grand visions for the creatives who call UAE home. We are a nation with much to contribute to the international landscape of film and the world of fine arts in general. There is so much untapped potential that needs to be nurtured and encouraged.
Although we are a young nation our history is deeply rooted in tradition, trade, and Islamic values. This has helped us embrace a more tolerant and accepting worldview whilst staying firm in our identity as an Islamic nation.

The road ahead is uncharted and will require a lot more conversations about serious topics. Today more than ever we need the youth to become change agents and films are one of the best platforms to do so. Films are one of the most potent ways to contribute, not just to the narrative of global evolution but as pathways to cultural dialogues.

Cultural change often requires role models and I have been blessed to be a pioneer for Emirati women as filmmakers. There is a fire in my soul to see the UAE play a more active role in the international film community. I am very humbled by the support I have received from the government of the UAE towards the production of my first international feature film, Three.
I am very excited about this opportunity to showcase the UAE’s culture and heritage in a format that will be accessible globally. As filmmakers, we shoulder the responsibility to be authentic and courageous to tackle issues not normally encouraged.

My ultimate dream is to see the stories of my country weaved into the minds and hearts of the people throughout the world. So that eventually when I leave this place my people’s stories captured in film will remain eternal and therefore our memories will be carried through the eyes of the future generations.
