Cast your minds back to the time when Kim Kardashian was shunned by the fashion industry, unable to get an invite to events such as the Met Gala, before her then-husband Kanye West took her as his plus-one. In the kind of success story that only comes through money, fame, connections and, of course, hard work (“get your ass up and work!”), Kardashian has now not only become the most influential woman in fashion, but she’s an award-winner too.

Last night, the 42-year-old took home the Innovator Award at the CFDA Awards in New York City, attending the event with her sister, Khloe Kardashian, as her date and her younger sister, Kylie Jenner, and mum, Kris Jenner, also in attendance.

For the momentous occasion, Kardashian didn’t play it safe style-wise, wearing a strapless latex see-through dress by Dolce & Gabbana with one of her black Skims bodysuits visible underneath. Kardashian wore minimal jewellery and styled her blonde hair slicked back with her dark regrowth on show.

Her date for the night matched her in terms of a body-con silhouette, wearing a bronze dress with one-sleeve and a cut-out at the stomach. As they posed for photos, the sisters adorably couldn’t stop giggling.

While accepting her award on stage, the mother-of-four, who has recently been the subject of many articles that point to the fashion industry’s return to glorifying thinness after a few years of inclusivity on the runways (she infamously dropped a lot of weight to fit into Marilyn Monroe’s dress for the Met Gala earlier this year), called for designers to continue to be size-inclusive.

“We have put a strong emphasis since our launch on continuing to shape the industry to embrace size equality and diversity as a fixture and not just a trend and I see so many of you are doing just that,” Kardashian told the audience.
