Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, has revealed she is undergoing treatment for cancer.

In a video posted to the official account for the Prince and Princess of Wales, the British royal revealed that following her abdominal surgery in January, it was found cancer was present.

The wife of Prince William stated the news had come as a “huge shock” following an “incredibly tough couple of months”, but also affirmed she was “well and getting stronger every day”.

Kate stated that following the test results that cancer was present she was advised to start treatment.

“My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment,” she said.

She thanked the public for their well wishes and messages of support adding, “William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.”

“It has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok,” she continued, adding that she and her family would need “some time, space and privacy”.

The Princess of Wales also shared a message to everyone who have been affected by cancer.

“For everyone facing this disease, in whatever form, please do not lose faith or hope,” she said. “You are not alone.”

Speculation had been growing surrounding Kate’s health following her surgery and many conspiracy theories were sparked following the release of a photoshopped photo of the princess and her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, to mark Mother’s Day in the UK.

While further details of the Princess of Wales’ condition haven’t been disclosed, per the BBC, Kensington Palace has stated it is “confident the princess will make a full recovery”.
