Last night we witnessed the first British Fashion Awards to be presented in partnership with TikTok, as well as the first to also be held in the Metaverse. Not only was the event attended by social media’s biggest stars, our favourite A-list celebs were also in attendance. The awards partnered with online game platform Roblox to create a virtual red carpet, whilst also adding a brand new award category: an award for “metaverse design.” Players were also able to explore a virtual recreation of Royal Albert Hall to watch the awards last night.

The night was hosted by Billy Porter at the Royal Albert Hall in London, however, tributes to the late Virgil Abloh were the main discourse of the night. Kim Jones, creative director of Fendi, dedicated his Designer of the Year award to Abloh. British Vogue’s Editor in Chief, Edward Enninful, addressed Abloh’s passing in his speech, saying, “As a leader of change, the impact of his work cannot be overstated.” The night was a celebration of life after the pandemic and a collective mourning for Abloh.
