Another day, another brand revealing its commitment to sustainability…

But what makes COS stand out is its Better Cotton Initiative.

While many shoppers think cotton automatically equates to a more natural fabric which is better for the environment, cotton farming is one of the most problematic areas of clothing production – according to WWF, it takes 20,000 litres of water to produce one kilogram of cotton, which is equivalent to a single t-shirt and pair of jeans.

Not so the minimalistic high street stalwart. For 2020 it is committed to consciously progressing its fabrics by only using cotton that is 100 percent more sustainably sourced, and sourcing organic, recycled and repurposed cotton.

Here’s hoping more retailers follow suit.
