Fifty Shades franchise star Dakota Johnson and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin have reportedly been dating for six years, and counting. Since their first outing in 2017, the pair have kept their relationship off the radar. This doesn’t mean that there haven’t been occasional slip-ups over the past six years. Let’s start with some background – it was October 2017 when People first reported the couple’s outing at a sushi restaurant. An eyewitness claims that the two were “cosy, laughing and affectionate.” Before Johnson, Martin was married to Gwyneth Paltrow, whom he has two children with, for 10 years before they broke it off in 2014.
For a short moment, Johnson and Martin parted ways but got back together immediately after Paltrow’s encouragement. The two have been going strong ever since.
With the couple being extremely private, any insight into their relationship is extremely rare. When asked about her love life in a December 2021 interview with Elle UK, the actress said, “We’ve been together for quite a while, and we go out sometimes, but we both work so much that it’s nice to be at home and be cosy and private. Most of the partying takes place inside my house.”
Johnson even addressed pregnancy rumours back in 2018 on Ellen. It was reported by TMZ that the couple hosted a gender-reveal party with pink and blue balloons, expecting their first baby together. Although this was completely false, the actress claims, “The only thing I’m pregnant with is a lot of really good ideas. But not a baby.” Johnson and Ellen DeGeneres then began to joke around, coming up with baby names together.
The 33-year-old has been a long-time fan of Coldplay, attending their concerts and dancing to every song they perform. From Argentina to Mexico, Johnson is always there to show public glimpses of her support. In fact, the actress tours with the band when not working and even directed the music video for Coldplay’s “Cry Cry Cry.”
In an episode of the “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” podcast the “Fix You” singer shared how Johnson helped improve the Coldplay concerts. Referring to new technology for the hearing impaired, he said, “they are called SubPacs. Dakota, my partner, gave me one as a gift because she saw someone online experiencing whatever they are experiencing with this… So, we started using it and it’s been so amazing and it should get better and better… If you’re hearing impaired we have an area where you sign up and you put on the pack and you can feel the show.”

During a 2021 concert in London, the singer romantically dedicated his song, “My Universe,” to Johnson. Leading up to his performance, the 46-year-old announced to fans, “This is about my universe, and she’s here,” as he pointed to his partner in the audience. The actual definition of “if he wanted to, he would.” Martin just raised the bar for all celebrity couples.

Recently this month, singer-songwriter Kelly Jones of the rock band Stereophonics joined Coldplay on stage and performed their hit song “Dakota.” Unfortunately, due to time constraints, Johnson was not able to make the concert. One user commented, “it is such a pity that Chris Martin’s girlfriend Dakota Johnson was not there to hear this.”
While the couple keeps many details of their romance to themselves, they prove that their relationship is stronger than ever. The two even have matching infinity tattoos as a symbol of a forever love. Could wedding bells be ringing soon?
