Creative director Olivier Rousteing is no stranger to pulling out the big guns for the runway. For his 10th anniversary at Balmain last year he recruited the likes of Doja Cat, Beyoncé and an army of heritage supermodels to celebrate the milestone and 12 months on at Paris Fashion Week is no different.
At the Jean Bouin Stadium in Paris overnight with an 8000-strong guest list in attendance the designer closed out his Balmain Festival runway for Spring/Summer 2023 with a surprise cameo from the one and only, Cher. In footage shared to the Balmain Instagram account, Rousteing went to greet the audience, following the singer who emerged from backstage.
The pair embraced and they walked hand-in-hand to Cher’s 1998 hit “Strong Enough”. Cher wore a futuristic catsuit underneath a corset with long sleeves and shoulder pads and, huge leather platform boots.
Following the presentation Cher shared her excitement on Twitter. “Just had the best time on stage,” she wrote in all capital letters. “Show was probably the best fashion show ever.” The cast featured over 100 models according to WWD, while off the runway Kylie Jenner unofficially won best street style for a mini crochet Balmain dress.

Speaking of Twitter, Cher garnered headlines last month after she sarcastically clapped back at fans who wrote that Dua Lipa was the “Cher of our generation.” In a reply on the social media platform, the pop star wrote “How many yrs are in a generation 🤔”.
In supporting the “Believe” artist one fan added, “Cher is the Cher of every goddamn generation she touches”. Last night, that rang true.
