If we could live permanently within any Chanel collection, it would almost certainly be cruise. Overnight in Monte Carlo, creative director Virginie Viard presented Cruise ’23, a collection that paid tribute to one of the ritzy neighbourhood’s most glamorous events, the Formula One.
The show also marked a return to sandy runway after a two year pandemic-related hiatus. Naturally, the event brought out various friends and fans of the house, Tilda Swinton, Kristen Stewart and Princess Caroline of Monaco among them.
The collection itself was a mash-up of fluffy pink tweed, teeny-tiny bags, baseball caps, racey jumpsuits and a smattering of sequins. All in all, perfect wares to see you through a summer of speed boats, casinos, trackside racing and seaside sun loungers (at least, we wish).
It would be remiss of us to not also mention the beauty: a fresh look that combined a little bit of lash with a little bit of lip, producing just enough glamour for the riviera. Makeup was by Lisa Butler, and married a soft, powdery complexion with a pinkish lip and doll-like lash. Brows were fluffy but groomed, while cheeks were dusted with the softest hint of rosy peach. Despite the coastal location, the look wasn’t bronzed, but fresh, clean and decidedly youthful.
Hair was by James Pecis, showcasing soft waves, slick ponytails and swishy blowdries. Some were topped with straw boaters, sparkly baseball caps and Chanel bows. All in all, the perfect accompaniment.
