Just last month, Kayali founder Mona Kattan officially announced her engagement to her now-fiancé Hassan Elamin. The engaged couple shared a carousel of posts on Instagram and we’ve all seen the myriad of headlines that swiftly followed after. We reckon it goes without saying, that the Arab world is beyond ecstatic for the two but little do we know about the backstory of their relationship. So, here’s a complete breakdown of Mona Kattan and Hassan Elamin’s relationship and everything that’s led up to this dreamy moment:
2003
Although we were completely in the dark at the time, Kattan and Elamin first met 20 years back when his sister and the entrepreneur studied in the same college. Kattan graduated with a BS in Finance from the American University of Sharjah.
2007
The couple revealed that they had been Facebook friends since 2007. “I connected on Facebook and messaged her, she kind of blew me off,” said Elamin.
2016
In January 2022, Kattan shares a throwback video of the pair in 2016 on her Instagram account.
November 2020
Fast forward to November 2020, Kattan reached out to one of their mutual friends to ask if he was single. They eventually had their first date and as the year is known for the widespread COVID-19 pandemic, Elamin, unfortunately, caught the virus and could only reach out to her after two weeks.
January 2021
Elamin mentioned how he later tried to reach out to Kattan. “I tried to get hold of her again for maybe two weeks and she blew me off,” said Elamin. “But, we started to go out properly in January.”
May 2021
The two went Instagram official in May 2021, just a few weeks after Kattan’s birthday celebrations with her loved ones. She wrote, “My FAV Gift is You”.
August 2021
More celebrations are in order and this time it’s for the birthday boy. Kattan blessed us with a lot of pictures of the two together throughout their relationship.
Elamin, the head of facultative, Middle East and Africa at Aon Reinsurance Solutions, also gave us a snippet into his birthday celebrations with the caption, “My 35th was the best I ever had because of you @monakattan”.
September 2021
The pair attended the Dubai-based content creator Mahmoud Sidani’s birthday bash alongside Karen Wazen, Tracy Harmoush, and more.
November 2021
The happy couple brings it full circle by attending another Louis Vuitton event in The View at the Palm, Dubai.
December 2021
We’ve got this moment etched on our hearts, when the two made their official announcement as a now engaged couple. They later reveal in a Q&A video that Elamin has planned to propose at a weekend dessert get away with the two surrounded by roses but the plan fell apart when Kattan fell ill. He ended up proposing just before bed when they were dancing together. Pretty romantic, if you ask us.
We also catch a glimpse of the two in Kattan’s 2021 recap on Instagram with Elamin commenting, “2022 going to be even better”. The wedding is set to take place sometime in 2022 and safe to say, we just can’t wait for the wedding.
