The music industry is well known for flair when it comes to any red carpet event and the VMAs is the very place to unleash the weird and wonderful. Take for example Lil Nas X in Harris Reed or Lizzo in haute couture Jean Paul Gaultier. Nothing is shocking or unexpected. But when Blackpink arrived at the red carpet this evening it was the palette cleanser we didn’t know we needed.
The four-member girl group coordinated in all-black looks but we couldn’t wrap up coverage without highlighting Rosé. Alongside her famous co-collaborators the singer wore the most perfect Saint Laurent long sleeve mini dress with a rosette at the waist and fabric draped at the ankles. It was paired with black patent pumps, Tiffany & Co. flame ear clips, a rope six-row x ring and a rope three-row x ring from the Schlumberger collection.
Blackpink performed their new hit single “Pink Venom”at the annual event and won the award for Best Metaverse Performance. They were also nominated for Group of the Year which was taken out by fellow K-pop band, BTS.
Other highlights from the red carpet also included Brazilian singer, Anitta. Earlier this evening she walked the red carpet in Schiaparelli haute couture. She wore a ruby red gown with a cutout corset bodice and a single moulded breast plate. To accompany her look was Tiffany & Co jewels including an Elsa Peretti bone cuff with diamond and ruby-clad rings.
She became the first Brazilian singer to win an MTV Video Music Award, honoured for Best Latin for her viral hit “Envolver” which she also performed.
