Today, Margot Robbie’s latest blockbuster film and one of her biggest roles to date, the 20th Century Studios mystery Amsterdam releases into Australian cinemas. While the Australian-born actress is no stranger to the best in biz – think starring alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Nicole Kidman – Robbie will be in the company of a huge all-star cast. In 2023, Robbie will then continue her Hollywood takeover with the feminist Greta Gerwig-directed film BARBIE

Before we look forward, we’re looking back at the scenes and stories that made the actress. Below we rank all the best Margot Robbie films from her smaller gigs to Oscar-worthy performances.

10. About Time

Perhaps one of her lesser-known appearances, Robbie stars in About Time as the sister of Rachel McAdams’ love interest Tim. While it’s certainly not a starring character she plays a pivotal role in how the film is shaped.

9. The Suicide Squad

Robbie returned to DC Comic franchise in 2021 as Harley Quinn with James Gunn at the helm of the second film. Just as she portrayed the comic book character in Birds of Prey (albeit with a little less dialogue) she was funny, quick-witted and embodied the rebellious spirit perfectly.

8. Focus

Appearing alongside Will Smith, Robbie plays a novice con artist who learns the techniques from her romantic partner. They split and three years later reunite in a surprise encounter at a high stakes race car circuit where his plans are dangerously changed. It’s clever and unexpected and one of the actresses earlier films.

7. The Big Short

It may be one of Robbie’s uncredited appearances but it remains iconic. In Adam McKay’s The Big Short, the film is interrupted by the actress sipping champagne in a bathtub while she attempts to explain mortgage-backed bonds. You can watch it in full above.

6. Mary Queen of Scots

In one of her most incredible transformations yet, Robbie stars alongside Saoirse Ronan as Queen Elizabeth I for the 16th-century period drama, Mary Queen of Scots. The film which is directed by Josie Rourke, sees the actress don a traditional red wig and ghastly white makeup as she attempts to other throw her cousins kingdom.

5. Birds of Prey

Despite less than favourable reviews on David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, Robbie returned in 2020 as Harley Quinn for the comedic action film Birds of Prey. She leads a group of female anti-heroes with her twisted smile and captivating stunts for a mind-bending character transformation.

4. Bombshell

In apt timing with the #MeToo movement, Robbie starred as a young associate producer at Fox News who was caught in the sexual assault allegations of former CEO Roger Ailes. She stars alongside Charlize Theron and Nicole Kidman in the retelling of this true story.

3. Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood

There was plenty of criticism around the airtime of Robbie in Quentin Tarantino’s blockbuster Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood but nonetheless she captured the spirit and uncanny resemblance of Sharon Tate. The film is based in a ’60s Los Angeles and reimagines the tale of Rick, a washed-out actor, and Cliff, his stunt double.

2. The Wolf of Wall Street

The Wolf of Wall Street ultimately launched Robbie to worldwide stardom in 2013 for her role as the former Miller Lite girl, Naomi Lapaglia. Starring alongside Leonardo DiCaprio the film follows not only their unorthodox relationship but the sleazy inner workings of the stockbroking game.

1. I, Tonya

Coming in at number one is the captivating I, Tonya. The film is based on the true story of figure ice skating champion Tonya Harding and her tumultuous career in the face of criticism and scandal. Robbie portrays the athlete and her eventual demise in the competitive sport so incredibly, it earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.
