If like us you were wondering when we learned of Amber Heard‘s pregnancy, well, we didn’t. The actress has taken to Instagram today and shocked fans by sharing an image of her newborn baby girl. She was carried via a surrogate.

“Four years ago, I decided I wanted to have a child. I wanted to do it on my own terms,” Heard wrote to her 3.9 million followers. “I now appreciate how radical it is for us as women to think about one of the most fundamental parts of our destinies in this way. I hope we arrive at a point in which it’s normalised to not want a ring in order to have a crib.

She continued, “A part of me wants to uphold that my private life is none of anyone’s business. I also get that the nature of my job compels me to take control of this. My daughter was born on April 8, 2021. Her name is Oonagh Paige Heard. She’s the beginning of the rest of my life.”

The baby’s name is seemingly in honour of Heard’s late mother, Paige Heard, who passed away in May last year.

According to Page Sixthe newborn was carried via surrogacy after the actress learned she would be unable to carry her own child. A source told the publication, “Oonagh is absolutely gorgeous, and Amber is besotted. She always knew that she wanted to be a mom, and this is her greatest wish come true. She’s so grateful to the wonderful woman who helped bring Oonagh into her life.”

The happy news arrives after a heated court battle with ex-husband of two years, Johnny Depp. In early November the Pirates of the Caribbean actor lost a libel case after a British newspaper labelled him as a “wife beater”. A judge ruled that was “substantially true”.
