Although far less utilitarian than the principal household goods, items like candles and wallpaper have skyrocketed in sales, proving that aroma and colour therapy are a top priority for consumers right now. That, and items to reconnect us with nature, have outweighed principal items like cooking appliances quarter after quarter.

This information is available via Afterpay’s 2022 Spring/Summer Global Trend Report, which synthesised its user data to draw conclusions about people’s current shopping habits. What it reveals is a priority shift among consumers, who are looking to spend their money on items that get them out of the house, moving, and relaxed versus items that compliment a desk-bound and at-home lifestyle. Ahead, are the top lifestyle items that consumers are buying and avoiding in spring/summer 2022.

Studies have shown that our environment impacts our subconscious and that colours can have a profound impact on our mood. According to Afterpay’s data, people have been tapping into this mood-boosting technique by opting for fun and room-brightening wallpaper in their homes. The return to the office has also meant that we’re no longer buying desk chairs to accommodate a work-from-home lifestyle. At least, not at the rate we used to buy them at. According to Afterpay’s data, desk chairs are one of the items that haven’t made it to a majority of people’s carts. Although, this desk chair by Branch Furniture would cause some major office envy.

Despite their ease and ability to cook a delicious meal, Croc Pots have also fallen out of favour with consumers over the past quarter. Perhaps most of us have already boughten ours already?

Most of us can agree that no morning is complete without a coffee. However, most of us won’t be buying a coffee pot this spring and summer. According to Afterpay’s data, this household appliance is one of the four items that have dropped in sales quarter after quarter.

Despite the ardent following the air fryer has developed, it is one of the cooking appliances consumers won’t be buying in droves this spring and summer. Although, we’ll likely still see air fryer recipes on TikTok, considering the hashtag has over 1.2 billion views on the social media app.
