This year, Saudi Arabia will celebrate its 93rd National Day.

Commemorated each year on September 23 in the Gregorian calendar, the day marks the unification of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

It was announced by the Saudi Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development that both public and private organisations would observe this day as an official public holiday.

Ahead of one of the most important days in the Saudi calendar, GRAZIA takes a deep dive into the history and importance of the Kingdom’s National Day.

What Is The History Of Saudi National Day?

This day of unity and pride marks the historic merger of the nations of Najd and Hijaz in 1932 under the leadership of His Majesty Abdulaziz bin Abdul Rahman Al Saud. It is a reminder of the Kingdom’s historical significance, rich heritage and visionary governance that has been paramount to bringing Saudi to where it is today.

This time is traditionally for the community to come together to express their patriotism and love of Saudi Arabia.

What is the theme for 2023?

Turki Al al-Sheikh, Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority (GEA), unveiled the identity for this year’s National Day via a tweet on X (formerly Twitter) – “We Dream and We Achieve”. This is inspired by the Kingdom’s noteworthy accomplishments so far and its perseverance to achieve its dreams for the future.

The theme is in line with the ambitious Saudi Vision 2030. The new logo comprises of a man and woman in the middle with elements of various undertakings across the country. The projects include AlUla, AlSoudah, Astronaut Program, Cube Project, The Line and Sindalah to name a few.

All employers are urged to abide by directives regarding official holidays. This will foster the harmonious commemoration of National Day, one of the Kingdom’s biggest celebrations.

How can you celebrate saudi national day?

The Kingdom will be adorned in green with great enthusiasm in honour of the flag. We can expect a weekend of grand cultural festivities like fireworks, concerts and parades taking place all across.

Falling on a Saturday, the occasion will bring the delight of a longer weekend, especially for those working six days a week. The Azimuth music festival in AlUla will also be taking place.

There’s no better way to celebrate than with music. To mark this occasion four songs -“Our Date 2030,” “Above the Clouds,” “Yes” and “My Home Is Here,” have been chosen.
