As we approach the 95th anniversary of Saudi National Day, we have all the details to share with you. More than a date, September 23, we celebrate the spirit, style and stories of Saudi Arabia.

THE STORY BEHIND NATIONAL DAY

Every year on September 23, Saudi Arabia bursts into celebration. To commemorate the unification of Najd and Hijaz as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which happened in 1932 at the hands of His Majesty King Abdulaziz ibn Saud. In 2005, the day was declared a public national holiday. This is one of the three non-religious holidays in the Kingdom. Celebrated alongside Saudi Founding Day (February 22) and Saudi Flag Day (March 11). In 2025, the Kingdom celebrates its 95th anniversary and the day is promised to be filled with joy, honour and remembrance.

Before the unification, the Arabian Peninsula was a cluster of different regions and communities, each with its own leadership and traditions. King Abdulaziz had a vision that was bold: to build a nation that could conserve a rich heritage could create a bright modern future. His leadership paved the way towards political, cultural and societal stability that Saudi Arabia proudly continues to embrace to this day.

WHAT IS THE THEME FOR 2025?

Revealed by the General Entertainment Authority, and the chairman of the Saudi Boxing Federation, who shared the news on his account on X. The official Saudi National Day theme and identity for 2025 is “Pride in Our Nature”.This year’s theme unites celebration under a shared sense of pride and identity. Honouring the special bond between the Saudi community.

TRADITIONS WITH A MODERN TWIST

The significance of the day is rooted in unity and culture. Throughout the day, the Kingdom celebrates by decorating the cities in the colours of the Saudi flag (White and Green). The flag is a representation and reminder of the legacy, while the national anthem evokes a sense of pride across generations. In recent years, the day has evolved into a gathering with people flooding the sky with fireworks and the streets are adorned with parades, shows, concerts, speeches and games. Families and friends often wear traditional attire honouring both the past and looking forward to the success of the future.

Additionally, a more personal tradition has emerged as well, with families and friends often exchanging small tokens of national pride. For example, flags, themed accessories, and traditional sweets like chocolate and dates. Both children and adults appreciate the thoughtful gifts as it’s a simple yet meaningful way of marking the day.

Finally, as you look forward to Saudi National Day, remember it’s more than a public holiday. It’s a day to honour the legacy of King Abdulaziz, the Saudi heritage, the pride that unites the nation and the promise of a bright future.
