The Internet, a place not exactly known for cultivating considered discourse, was quick to notice when Hailey Bieber seemingly unfollowed her husband, Justin Bieber, on Instagram—a detail drawing particular focus amid rumours of estrangement between the two.
Justin, who had an unusually active day on the platform, posted eight new photos and 17 Instagram Stories, including a heartwarming post with his son, Jack Blues Bieber. Among the posts was a close-up shot of Hailey set to Sade’s ‘Jezebel’, which some fans read into as a diss—only made more suspicious given the unfollow. But as it turns out, the mystery came down to a technical glitch.
During the posting spree, the singer briefly deactivated and reactivated his account, causing a tech issue that made it appear as though his wife had unfollowed him.
Hailey wasted no time setting the record straight. Taking to TikTok, she commented, “It’s a glitch. Didn’t unfollow him. Hope this helps!”
Sources later confirmed to TMZ that Justin’s deactivation had caused the social media snafu.
In fact, Hailey was openly supportive of her husband’s posting, even dropping a heart-eyes emoji in his comments.
The mishap comes after a similar issue in January, when Justin briefly unfollowed Hailey, later blaming it on unauthorised account activity.
“Shit is getting suss out here,” he wrote in the explanation.
Despite relentless online scrutiny, the couple tries not to let the hate interfere with their marriage, as Hailey explained in an interview with W Magazine last year.
“People have made me feel so bad about my relationship since day one. It’s like people don’t want to believe that we’re happy,” she told the publication. “I used to try to act like it hurts less and less… But I realise that it doesn’t actually ever hurt any less.”
In a sweet moment shared with his Instagram followers earlier this year, Justin also paid tribute to Hailey, calling her “the greatest woman I have and will ever know.”
The couple, who have been married since 2018, renewed their vows in Hawaii last year and announced their first pregnancy to the world at the same time.
