The UAE is set for a cosmic-level visitor this month, particularly, the September Epsilon Perseids Meteor Shower.
Following celestial events such as the Quadrantids Meteor Shower that happened earlier this year, the March Equinox, the August Perseids Meteor Shower and others, we’re now expecting another galactic phenomenon to take place from September 5 up to September 21.
The September Epsilon Perseids Meteor Shower will reach its peak between the night of September 9 with an average of five to eight meteors per hour up until the early hours of September 10.
What is the September Epsilon Perseids Meteor Shower?
Unlike the August Perseids which is known as the best annual meteor shower that takes place every mid-August, the Epsilon Perseids is considered to be a much minor meteor shower.
The Perseids stem from the constellation Perseus and are caused by debris from long-period comets entering Earth’s atmosphere.
With that said, the light emitting from these meteors is much more faint with lower activity.
Regardless of the medium brightness, it still offers a celestial view that will ensure sights to behold.
How to watch the September Epsilon Perseids Meteor Shower in the UAE
Despite having a dimmer shine, you can still observe the meteor showers in select places. Typically around 11pm or midnight is the optimal time to venture and admire the September Epsilon Meteor Shower.
Though no spots have been verified yet, according to Khadija Hasan Ahmad, the operation manager and astronomer at Dubai Astronomy Group mentioned to Khaleej Times that Jebal Jais, Al Quaa, and Al Qudra, are the places that offer the best visibility for viewing meteor showers.
